The building was constructed in 1815 by a Viennese merchant, Joseph Winkler and then there were added two floors in 1851. The facade went through several changes. At the corner of the building there is a log made of "iron", a reminder of the medieval guilds: the journeymen that arrived in the city to learn the secrecy of the trade, were beating a nail in the log as a memory when they were leaving the city, each nail having a special head. Today the restored log can be found at The Arad County Museum Complex.
