Elena Ghiba Birta National College is located at 6 Ion Dragalina Boulevard. It used to be a superior school for girls. Elena Ghiba Birta was a great patron of education in Arad, the daughter of a priest, born in 1801 in Bekes (Hungary). Her will included, among other important donations, a special donation of 48.000 florins offered to establish a foundation called the "Elena Ghiba-Birta" Foundation. Its aim was to ensure, through scholarships, the schooling of the pupils and the students that were poor but deserving, of Orthodox religion and of Greek or Romanian origin from the counties Bihor, Bekes or Cenad. The building, constructed in 1880 in the eclectic style, had initially two floors, then another one was added later on, but still preserving the original architectural lines. Currently, it hosts one of the representative institutions of pre-university education in Arad.
