According to the oral tradition, the wooden church in Cristești was built in 1860, while the village was pastored by the priest Dâlvu from Obârșia The church was covered with shingles until 1916. During that year the current tile cover was put on. The last renovation took place in 1969 with the contribution of the believers, but also with the help received from the Romanian Orthodox Patriarchate. The small number of churchgoers and the scarce financial means in this mountain village are also reflected in the decorations of the church.
